Razorblades and Apples

It happens every year, temperatures drop for some needed relief from summer, kids go back to school, leaves start changing, and the fall season is in the air. You start to see Halloween decorations popping up around town, and then come the reports… We’ve all heard it before, razorblades in apples, cyanide in pixie sticks, and now it’s marijuana infused candy that could end up in your child’s trick or treat bag. Hospitals even offer to xray candy to make sure it’s safe. But in the midst of all the warnings, where are the reports of injuries caused by tainted Halloween candy? Are razorblades and drug laced candy a real threat? Today on Culture Clique we talk to Craig Upright, Associate Professor of Sociology at Winona State University about stories of tainted Halloween candy. Just how did they come to be and is there any truth to these trick or treat tales of terror. I’m Bill Stoneberg, with Professor Craig Upright on today’s Culture Clique. Original air date: 10/31/19. Culture Clique is written and produced by KQAL on the campus of Winona State University and is made possible by a grant from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
