50 Years of In Black America with John L. Hanson Jr.

For 50 years the nationally syndicated radio show, In Black America has given voice to people of color in America, and John L. Hanson Jr. has hosted the show for the last 40 of those 50 years. John L. Hanson Jr. has interviewed everyone from artists to athletes and he’s seen a lot, but that doesn’t stop him from continuing to provide a space for black voices on the radio. Today, to commemorate the shows 50th year, we talk to John L. Hanson Jr. about everything from his journey as a young kid from Detroit moving to Austin TX to a decidedly hot interview with Aretha Franklin. I’m Bill Stoneberg, with KQAL’s Doug Westerman and the host of In Black America John L. Hanson Jr., on today’s Culture Clique. Original air date: 10/29/20. Culture Clique is written and produced by KQAL FM on the campus of Winona State University and is made possible by a grant from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
